A Day To Remember

standing in the darkness
not knowing where to go
looking at the shadow
to see just what will show

knowing that forever
is just outside my grasp
slipping on the gown
reaching for the clasp

sheer terror is upon her
not knowing what shall be
wondering who is out there
afraid of who she'll see

peering thru the window
made of colored glass
hoping that this day
will just quickly pass

slowly starts the music
the organ sounds so loud
wishing she could hide
from this massive crowd

why is she so scared
this should be her day
why is she now hiding
wanting to run away

she moves from out
her dressing room
slowly walking forward
seeing now her groom

he smiles wide
and shows his delight
yet still she thinks
only of her flight

why is she here
to marry this man
when in her heart
she still loves Stan

Stan her first
her one true love
now looking down
from up above

as she walks step by step
edging closer to her fate
she longs for the times
she was free to date

remembering fondly
that one night
just before
their last fight

can she go back
into his life
once again
be his wife

or is it time
to be true
and tell this man
i don't love you

as she reaches the end
of this long white isle
she turns her head
and catches his smile

she sees him there
and lets out a small scream
she is shocked and shaking
wonders if it is a dream

she thought he was gone
she was told he was dead
and now he appears
on her day to be wed

her heart does just stop
and everyone stares
everyone knows
just how much she still cares

for this man standing there
in the balcony high
she runs into his arms
and lets out a sigh

her new groom is a wreck
this day is a mess
there she stands in his arms
in her new wedding dress

a return from the grave
or so it may appear
his sight such a shock
causing eyes to tear

told he had been lost
in a far away land
when the plane went down
in the desert sand

several years had past
since that tragic night
all those lonely moments
every sleepless night

now asking him the question
where was he all those years
she was sitting home
eyes swelled up with tears

he answered with a kiss
then gently he says
a prisoner of war
half a world away

i dreamt of you my love
and of my sweet return
only to be free
and of your wedding learn

now i ask my one true love
do you love me still
if you don't i understand
i can leave if that's your will

no she cries you are my love
the one that's always true
turning to Jim she sadly says
i cannot marry you

my husband's alive
return from the dead
back into my life
so i am already wed

in that sweet little moment
Jim's dreams fell apart
yet he is happy for them
they have a new start

Jim turns to the crowd
and shouts to them all
a toast to the couple
as the rice starts to fall

they wave to the people
as the rice still comes down
they stand hand in hand
him in his jeans her in her gown
