Forgotten Child

behind the sofa sits a little girl
curled up in a ball and crying
everyone is home yet no one notices her missing
she sits there often, no one notices

as the child grows up she no longer fits behind the sofa
so she finds other places to cry
today she sits in her closet
trying hold back her tears

now as an adult she still sits alone and cries
only she no longer has anyone to hide from
she sits alone in her big empty house
as the tears fall down

and still no one stops to check on her
no one asks how she is doing
not her family, not her friends
she is the forgotten child
